Denise Walser-Kolar

Denise is truly one of my favourite botanical Artists. I love the realism she captures, she almost makes something more real than it is.

Her Website:

From an article by ASBA art:

Her advice to aspiring botanical artists is simple. “It really is just a matter of painting and painting and painting and coming up with whatever works for you,” she says.

“And it never gets easy. It’s not easy for me. It’s harder than it ever was before because I’m seeing more things. It doesn’t ever get fast. It doesn’t ever get easy. It’s always satisfying.”

I love her advice that it never gets easier but it is always satisfying. Occasionally we do expect it to get easier, but it really never does. It always requires a deep level of concentration and attention to detail. We never get faster, it will always be slow. In a way, that is where the beauty of botanical art is - in the slow details of it all. It was never meant to get easier and we were never meant to be faster.
